Hi, I’m 16 years old and I’m wondering if it’s possible to either raft or canoe all the way down the Mississippi River. I am wondering because I am planning on doing this when I finish highschool. My main question about the trip is whether there are any dams or obstructions that would keep me from going down the river, and if there are, if they are passable. Also, I would like to know any other general information about this kind of trip, things like what the weather might be like at different points, places on the river that one can get bare necessities if needed, and anything else you can offer or I might need to know. I appreciate it, and the more information, the better! Thanks!

Sure you can. Sounds like a great project.
I’m pretty sure there are some dams and locks, depending on where you start from, and I don’t know if you can take a canoe in along side a big barge (or want to) but with a canoe, you can easily portage.

Sounds like a good plan, wish I were there,Hey don’t let the dams and stuff like that stop U,you may need a special portable canoe cart for some serious portages as well as special taxi arrangements for others .I’m living in East coast Canada and can’t help U on the points on the river etc but you’ll do it with good up to date research and maps of areas perhaps aerial photos.Get buddies if U can, experienced ones if possible.Wishing you well.
