My husband asked me today about going kayaking. it sounds & look like a ton of fun…..but I’m afraid i’ll be to big for it. I’m about 5′6 and weigh a little under 230lbs. I”m in the process of losing weight & still really self conscious & I’ve seen people kayaking on t.v. and the boats look so small…..so how big is the opening to the kayak seat? thanks for any help…..

Most recreational kayaks have big cockpits. They are not usually used with a spray skirt and are not easy to roll. A whitewater or sea kayak will have a smaller cockpit and won’t be as easy to get in or out of. I am 6′2″, 230 # and can comfortably use any recreational kayak, most sea kayaks and some whitewater kayaks.
