I need the cheapest thing that I could put on the roof to get it around. Do you think the sporting goods store would have something?

They would probably have a kayak rack, you can ask them where to get one if they don’t

You could try an auto parts store if the sporting goods store doesn’t have anything. A good auto parts can fit roof racks to almost any vehicle.

They have soft kayak racks which are pretty inexpensive.
Here is a hard rack if your car already has the roof rack/cross bars:
